Challenging and Worthwhile Experience

Interning with UNCDF Malaysia is a challenging and worthwhile experience, with the opportunity to work within a diverse team to tackle important financial issues. I am able to learn various things from the very skilled team members who have been helpful in guiding me throughout my internship here. Additionally, the work we do at UNCDF Malaysia provides an interesting new perspective on the world of digital finance, which I think would be great for those who wish to expand their horizons.

Powerful impact on my career

The Data Star Graduate Program conducted by The Center of Applied Data Science (CADS) is a promising program for a career in data science and beneficial to the growth of young professional. In one of the learning tracks that I took, it was tailored to be proficient in role as a Junior Data Scientist. Graduated with a BS degree in physics, I found myself gravitating towards statistics, and picking up Python and SQL coding language. Also, I find the new passion in artificial intelligence (AI) particularly in the realm of machine learning (ML).

Age is just a number

Age is just a number! As long you have the will to learn, you are better than most of the people out there. No matter where you stand, respect others and you'll earn their respect too. Show them that you're capable and you have the unlimited potential to unleash yourself. Also, appreciate the trust that have been given. Do more of what makes you happy.

Keep on Trying!

My master's research required high commitment, perseverance, and collaboration skills as I spent eight months just to fabricate devices related to the study of magnetoresistance in antiferromagnetic material . This research will enhance the application of spintronics in ultrafast information processing and storage. In the end, the experience and skills gained from this research elevated my skills set to work as a failure analysis engineer at a semiconductor company.

Persistently Work On It

Everything started with a personal blog in 2016. It was an attempt to write science articles for the masses. By mid-2018, MajalahSains noticed and offered me an editorship position for 3 months. They were also interested to publish some of my writings from the blog. By July of 2018, The Patriots Asia recruited me as their member author. So that’s where I currently write, occasionally. It’s reassuring to know that your work will eventually be noteworthy if you persistently work on it.

Love Coming Up With Creative Ideas

I love coming up with creative ideas. At GENIUS@Pintar, I became the Gold Medalist of National Future Scientist Conference when I developed a multi-functional home robot that can sense floods, fires and burglaries. While pursuing my undergraduate in Boston University, I founded JomAce (previously QuizTyme), an educational gaming app which enables students to play against each other in real-time. With JomAce, I aspire to help students learn in an interactive and fun way that will supplement conventional learning.

Passion and Hard Work

Being passionate and doing hard work is my self-esteem. I still remember when I sacrificed my free time to regularly meet and learn with a lecturer and Former Director of PERMATApintar, Professor Dato’ Dr. Noriah, to ask for opinions and advice. I was even selected to become one of the officers for the National Assembly of Malaysian Students in America (NAMSA) during my studies at Pennsylvania State University for the 20/21 term. Finally, I could see for myself the world beyond my little village!

Someone Believed in Me

Two years in service made me realise the impact I could have for the future generation. Teaching is truly a beautiful journey I embark on, especially when I was appointed as the technical co-academic officer in Pitas. I have successfully formed an orator team that has maintained various championships over the last two years. Keen to help pupils to experience the joy of success despite living in hardship. Instilling the soul of a fighter in them and continuously unleash their talents and hidden potential. I am what I am today because someone believed in me and I owe it to my pupils to believe in them.

Made it My Stepping Stone

My research was to synthesize and characterize solvatochromic metal complexes. It all started at GENIUS@Pintar with my High School project for the Future Scientist Conference. I was exposed to Chemistry and from there I made it as my stepping stone to pursue my studies in that field. The exposure has sharpened my skills that helped me to become more successful in my research. This is one of the numerous lessons that I've gained from Kolej GENIUS@Pintar and had it helped me look at the world in a bigger picture.

Endless Opportunities

After obtaining a bachelor's degree in psychology, I embarked on a new chapter with an enthusiastic passion in human and creative endeavours. What began as a brief internship placement successfully became a stepping stone towards my full-time career as an Associate Psychologist at Global Psytech - substantially rewarding me with endless opportunities to utilize my knowledge, skills, and strengths for the enrichment of others.

Fostered Critical Thinking Skills

As a medical physics master’s student, I joined a collaborative research project with a medical software company to evaluate their software's feasibility to be integrated in a clinical workflow. The project is a continuous effort to provide more quantitative clinical decision-makings to increase the accuracy of radiation treatment delivery. This experience fostered my critical thinking skills to effectively communicate my results and opinions with medical physicists and software engineers. I had the opportunity to present my work at a national conference.

Inspired Me to Contribute

Representing Malaysia for the 5th ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting (AFMAM) was an amazing experience for an aspiring diplomat like me. The annual programme aims to raise ASEAN awareness and promote greater ownership of the ASEAN Community amongst the young people in the region. Through AFMAM, I learned more on the ASEAN Way of diplomacy and it widened my knowledge on regional efforts in making ASEAN a better region for everyone. It has indeed inspired me to contribute even more to the regional development in whatever paths in life I'm taking.

Uncertainty is a Pleasure in Disguise

The thought of pursuing my studies in business field never came across my mind as I finished high school with a science cert. But I decided to take this leap of faith and did it anyway. It was challenging in the beginning, but now I could not imagine doing any other course than business. The most unexpected achievement throughout my studies is maintaining the 4.0 CGPA streak up to this semester. I am convinced that uncertainty is a pleasure in disguise.

Perfect Environment

Do what you love, and you’ll never work another day in your life." This was what I felt throughout my time working on my thesis at the National Institute of Biological Standards and Control, UK, and it inspired me to become a researcher. There, I learned the bittersweetness of research and gained insight into industrial research as I collaborated with virology experts for my project on the Nipah virus. All in all, hands down, the perfect environment to learn science!

Vital in Honing Myself

Opportunity persuades us in a variety of ways. Be it competitions, research, or internships. However, the ability to utilize opportunities and use them to develop ourselves is a skill each of us should focus on. For me, being able to join an international university delegate to Uzbekistan, participating in an exchange program in Kazakhstan, and scoring points in the Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad during my time in college, all were vital in honing myself and carried me this far.
